Quantifying and comparing road network resilience of Indian cities using crowd sourced data and simulation

Prof. M N Sai Chand Chakka

Road networks often get disrupted due to natural disasters (flooding, earthquake, extreme fog, etc.), traffic incidents, system failures, road blockages, and special events. A system?s capacity to absorb a hazard and quickly rebound to its original state or new equilibrium is called resilience. Understanding the resilience of road transportation networks to these disruptions is essential to maintain their continuity and ensure efficient and effective transportation of goods and people. Despite the growing interest on resilience of road networks around the world, research in Indian context is limited, primarily due to lack of access to efficient and accurate traffic data. Technological developments have led in the widespread usage of smartphones on a global scale. In this proposal, we outline an approach for quantifying and comparing road network resilience of Indian cities using crowdsourced data and simulation.
