Jagan Shah, M.Phil.(Architecture), Columbia University, Professor of Practice

I am an architect and urbanist with a keen interest in creating cities that thrive on the synergies between people, places and technology. I have led several organizations, most notably India's National Institute of Urban Affairs (2013-16), where I co-created the HRIDAY programme for heritage cities and the Smart Cities Mission. I incubated the Climate Centre for Cities and the Centre for Digital Governance at NIUA. The Draft Master Plan for Delhi 2041 was produced under my leadership, including the drafting of policies for Transit-Oriented Development, Land Pooling and Green Area Development. I have worked in the UK Government as a Senior Infrastructure Adviser (2019-21), and at the World Bank (2022-23) as a Senior Advisor (Capacity Building). I am a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Transportation & Development Policy (ITDP) in New York and member of several initiatives at the national thinktank NITI Aayog.
