Background and Current Research

Kushal’s current research focuses on identifying and analyzing jerk events in heavy commercial vehicles using mobile sensor data. His goal is to develop a strong and scalable framework for safety assessment in real-world traffic conditions. He processes high-frequency inertial signals from smartphone-based sensors to calculate acceleration and jerk profiles. These profiles help detect harsh driving patterns and safety-critical events. The research emphasizes temporal precision, signal quality, and contextual interpretation. It aims to understand how these events relate to driving behavior, road conditions, and operational environments. By using mobile sensing technologies, Kushal plans to create cost-effective and data-driven safety evaluation methods that suit the complexities of mixed-traffic systems, especially in India.
