Background and Current Research:

Aashly V S is a PhD scholar whose research focuses on integrating exposure and vulnerability assessments in the context of urban flooding, using Delhi as a case study. Her work focuses on how flood exposure and vulnerability can be integrated at different spatial scales, at a more micro-level, which will be suitable for an urban area like Delhi, especially among marginalised communities and those living in informal settlements. Aashly’s research proposes transport-related indicators such as connectivity, evacuation feasibility, and road condition as important yet often overlooked dimensions of vulnerability in urban flood contexts. She also explores how transportation strategies can be framed as part of flood preparedness and how their potential impact on reducing vulnerability can be analyzed.
Aashly’s study emphasizes grounded research in participatory and policy-relevant methods to support more inclusive urban flood planning. Her work aims to bridge the gap between technical frameworks and the ground-level realities of vulnerable populations, contributing to governance strategies that are both practical and equitable.
