Background and Research:
Akanksha is a researcher in the field of transportation planning, with a specific focus on public transport accessibility, disaster resilience, and climate adaptation in urban contexts. Her work investigates how public transport systems, particularly bus systems, can be made accessible, equitable, and resilient in response to growing climate-related risks such as urban flooding. Through her research, she aims to develop a framework to assess the accessibility and resilience of public transport systems, especially buses, in order to prioritize the needs of vulnerable bus users in Delhi.
Prior to this, she interned at the Climate Centre for Cities at NIUA, a think tank affiliated with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (Government of India), where she gained invaluable insights into climate-resilient urban planning. She also interned at Wetlands International, where she contributed to research on nature-based solutions for flood mitigation and sustainable urban wetland management. Akanksha is the recipient of the prestigious Vice Chancellor's Gold Medal for academic excellence in her Master's degree in Urban Planning. She was among the top 9 finalists in the Student Thesis Competition 'Reimagining Cities,' Postgraduate category sponsored by Namami Gange, Government of India.
