Background and Current Research

Currently, Mekuanint is pursuing doctoral research at the TRIP Centre, IIT Delhi, focusing on evaluating road safety and identifying key factors contributing to crash occurrences, with a particular emphasis on pedestrian safety on multi-lane highways in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). His research aims to deliver actionable insights for safer road designs and evidence-based policy interventions. Mekuanint is committed to advancing transportation safety, improving pedestrian infrastructure, and supporting safer and more inclusive mobility systems in LMICs.

Mekuanint Getnet is a passionate transportation engineering professional with a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Haramaya University and an M.Tech in Transportation Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. He has over five years of experience as a Consultant Engineer and Lecturer in Civil Engineering at Haramaya University, where he developed strong expertise in road safety, traffic operations, and sustainable transport systems.
