Background and Current Research

Currently, Parth is pursuing doctoral research at the Transportation Research and Injury Prevention Centre (TRIP-C), Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.  His Ph.D. research on pedestrian-vehicle interactions in complex environments using immersive virtual reality, eye tracking, and EEG technology. His research aims to understand how cognitive load, distraction, and working memory capacity affect pedestrian decision-making during road crossing tasks. Parth's study integrates behavioural insights with surrogate safety indicators like Post-Encroachment Time (PET), Time-to-Collision (TTC), reaction time, and gaze fixation data to identify high-risk behaviours and potential countermeasures.

Parth's master's thesis investigated the impact of heavy vehicle volumes, population density along national highways, and road network characteristics on fatal crashes involving heavy vehicles in India. Through statistical modelling, the study highlighted the safety burden posed by freight corridors and provided evidence-based recommendations for policy and infrastructure interventions."
